Apple Press Release
Posted: October 12, 2005

This morning, Apple held another press conference to release several new products. As with other press releases, here is our assessment:

iMac G5
The iMac G5 is not a new concept, but some of the new features ARE very new, and very exciting. First of all, they did away with the low-end 17" Combo Drive. All iMacs now come with a Super Drive. The sizes are still the same as before (17" and 20"). They now have a built-in iSight (webcam) to make your video conferencing even more enjoyable and simple. The overall design is sleeker than the previous model as well. The most radical change, however, is the new multimedia controller software. It's an easy-to-use menu system that allows you to quickly play iMovies, DVDs, photos and music, all with the aid of an included wireless remote control. Check out the new design today at www.apple.com.
iPod
The latest member of the iPod family is able to handle all that we have seen so far (music, photos, etc), but now includes video! It can hold up to 150 hours of video, and has a 2.5" color display. As you can see from the picture to the left, it's a slimmer/sleeker design. There are 2 sizes (30 GB and 60 GB) and 2 colors (white and black). The new iPod sports a 20 hour battery life. Prices are $299 (30 GB) and $399 (60 GB).
iTunes v.6
This release of iTunes adds a new feature that allows you to download music videos and TV shows for a minimal cost of $1.99 per download. You can watch these videos either right on your computer, or take them with you with the newest member of the iPod family. The cost to upgrade, as usual, is free.
