Keynote :: Convert to QuickTime
Posted: June 27, 2006

You just gave a killer presentation (using Apple Keynote, of course) to a group of key clients, and they want to take it with them to show "the man" back at their head office. The last thing you want to do is hand over a raw presentation file for them to mess with. There is nothing stopping them from making their own changes, and who knows what else.

So don't give them the original file... give them a QuickTime version! This is great because not only does it retain all images and embedded fonts used in the presentation, but it also limits them so that the only thing they can do with it is play it. Oh, and you also don't need to worry about them having the right software to play the file. All they need is QuickTime (a free download from www.apple.com/quicktime).

To convert your Keynote presentation to a QuickTime file, Go to File | Export... From here, be sure to choose "QuickTime" from the series of options at the top. The resulting window will look like this:

From here, you will need to change the settings based on what type of a presentation it is (interactive vs. self-playing, format type, etc.). When you are set to go, hit Next... It will ask for a file name and location.

It may take you two or three tries to get used to all the various settings, but once you have it, you will find yourself using this feature all the time!
