Understanding Digital Video Resolutions

Whether you are a video novice, or an up-and-coming editing expert, it's important to understand the various video resolutions in relation to other resolutions. Obviously, the higher the resolution, the sharper the image (especially on larger screens and projectors). To help visually see where the various resolutions are with respect to each other, I created an easy-to-read chart below:

Although 4k resolution si clearly the highest, it isn't used much right now. Most feature film studios use 2k. Your standard home camcorder will typically use the DV resolution.

One thing to note... the above images are NOT at ful-scale. They are to be used only to compare respective resolutions.
