Dashboard :: Align Your Widgets
Posted: April 12, 2006

Most people don't think about aligning their widgets in Dashboard... they simply add and subtract them as needed, which is fine. For those who like to show some sort of organization when they hit F12, it may be a bit difficult to do this without using some sort of tool. Architects and mathematicians use graph paper to do sketches on, so why can't OS X users?! We will. Only we will do it digitally. :-)

I created a 1440x900 pixel JPEG image that looks like graph paper. Here is a sample of that image:

The concept is easy. Simply open the image in Preview (by double-clicking on it after you have downloaded it), and it will fill your screen. Once it's open, hit F12 to activate Dashboard. What you should see now is your screen full of widgets, with your brand new (and very sophisticated) "widget alignment tool" in the background. It will look something like this:

From here, just move your widgets around as needed, then close the alignment image. It's that easy! You'll be organized in no time.
