iWeb :: Adding Site Security With your web site set up exactly how you want it, you are ready to advertise to your family and friends. You may even want to put information about a car you are selling on your site. Before you know it, everyone knows your iWeb web address, which is great because that's what it's there for. At some point in the future, however, you will more than likely want to publish information that is a little more sensitive... photos of a newborn baby, private financial information, etc. Information that you wouldn't want the entire world seeing. To do this, you first need to select the site you want to password-protect on the left side of iWeb. Then, with the Inspector open (if it isn't open, click on the blue "i" button at the bottom of iWeb), click on "Site", and then the "Password" button. It will look like the following:
Simply check the "Make my published site private" box, and enter a username and password. Once you have done this, save your site, then publish. When a visitor attempts to visit a password-protected site, they will get a dialog box asking for the appropriate credentials (like the following):
Without the proper credentials, they will get nowhere. |
