iWork :: Introducing the "Inspector"
Posted: February 09, 2006

Whether you are making a presentation for millions to see, or writing a letter to your Grandmother, one thing you will quickly learn with either Keynote or Pages (both part of the iWork suite) is that the "Inspector" will be your #1 friend (and sometimes your #1 enemy).

The Inspector is where all your document settings reside. From page margins to slide size to QuickTime file preferences. This is where the party is.

Once you are in Keynote or Pages, simply click on the blue "i" button at the top of your screen. It looks like this:

This will open a new side window for you. As you can see from the video below, there are all kinds of settings contained within the Inspector. Probably too many to discuss in one Mac Tip. So rather then explaining them all, I would strongly recommend that you take 15 - 30 minutes and navigate through the Inspector on your own time, looking carefully at every setting available (and playing with them):

So how could the Inspector be your #1 enemy, you may ask? Sometimes, you may have a hard time finding a setting. Just keep looking. It's in there somewhere. Meanwhile, you will be cursing the Inspector (until you find your setting, then you will love it again).
