Using the "smileys" in iChat A/V is a fun way to express yourself to others. If you're laughing about something, use the "Laugh" icon. If you are embarrassed about something, use the "Embarrassed" icon. There are two ways to enter these smileys. First, you can click on the grey smiley at the right side of the text insertion line, as shown below:

When you click on this, a listing of 16 smileys will appear. Simply choose the one you want, and it is automatically entered into the text field. When you hit enter, it is sent to the other party.

The other way to insert smileys is by using your keyboard. You will notice that while hovering over the smileys in the graphical form, that each one has a name and a key combination with them. By simply entering the key combination in the text field, it will be transformed into the appropriate smiley when you hit enter. For example, If I were to type "That is so funny! :-D", it would appear as this:
