Summary of Steve Jobs' Macworld 2006 Keynote

In case you missed it, I thought that I would recap what was said in Steve Jobs' Macworld 2006 keynote speech for you. Below is a brief summary of the information that was given, as well as the announcements he made regarding new software and hardware.

Retail Update
- 135 retail stores
- 26 Million visitors in Q4 2005
- $1 Billion retail revenue in Q4 2005
- $5.7 Billion overall revenue in Q4 2005

Music/iPod
- 14 Million iPods sold in Q4 2005!
- 42 Million total iPods sold (32M sold in 2005)
- 850 downloads in iTunes
- 83% market share for music downloads
- 8 Million videos downloaded since Oct 12, 2005
- SNL contents now available
- FM tuner now available for nano and iPod for $49 - TODAY
- Chrysler will have iPod integration support for over 3 Million vehicles in 2006

Mac OS X
- 10.4.4 is now available
- 1,500 widgets available, Apple added several new widgets with 10.4.4

iLife
- iLife ‘06 now shipping for $79... “giant new release”
- Massive improvements in iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garageband
- Photocasting (new to iPhoto) allows for easy photo sharing
- Animated themes in imovie
- Magic iDVD... very quick authoring
- New podcast feature in GarageBand
- New iLife app... iWeb
- iLife ‘06 is free for new Mac purchases

.Mac
- 1+ Million subscribers

iWork
- iWork ‘06 now shipping for $79
- New 3D charts
- More advanced image editing
- Built-in image reflection affect

iMac
- New Intel-based iMac available today!
- Same features as most current iMac G5
- 2-3 times faster than most current iMac G5
- Features the new Intel Duo Core processor
- All OS X applications run natively (“universal binaries”)
- All non-universal applications will run through Rosetta (a translator)
- 17” - $1,299
- 20” - $1,699

“One more thing...”

MacBook Pro
- Intel-based replacement for PowerBook G4, available in February
- Performance per watt is 1.05 (compared to 0.27 on the G4)
- Features the new Intel Duo Core processor
- 4-5 times faster than the PowerBook G4
- Slightly thinner chassis
- Brightness of the screen is equal to that of a Cinema Display
- Built-in iSight camera
- Now includes FrontRow
- New power connector called MagSafe
- 1.67GHz - $1,999
- 1.83GHz - $2,499

Side Notes
- Microsoft has entered an agreement with Apple to develop Office for at least 5 more years
- No mention of Windows-only applications running on OS X on Intel
- Keynote is 1:34:23
- APPL stock +$4.80 (6.3%) today
